IAT Sensor: High Current
Hey, as you can guess... I have put a CAI on the car ('97 Eclipse RS)... the other day, leaving work... my CEL light came on... I panicked and got the code checked... it said IAT: High Current...
I'm almost certain that's the intake's fault... What can I do to correct this issue... b/c I can't get it inspected with the CEL on...

Re: IAT Sensor: High Current
The CAI really has nothing to do with that. People put them on everyday and run them for the life of the car with no problems.
Try putting on the stock airbox and reset the code and see if it comes up. The sensor could be bad, but only shows when the CAI is installed

Re: IAT Sensor: High Current
Is there a MAS on the 420 (DOHC, NT) Eclipses?
I don't see one... I had one on my Stealth... but don't see one on my Eclipse... the CEL is on, says high current (IAT sensor)... I have installed a short-ram and disconnected the valve cover hose for now (til I buy a crank case breather filter)... would that cause the sensor to show bad?

Re: IAT Sensor: High Current
anything else... I'm going to the beach tomorrow, but I want this fixed... the car idles really high now... when I left off gas, it stays at 2k for a few seconds, then drops down slowly

Re: IAT Sensor: High Current
Try adjusting the throttle cable and make sure it's on right. Disconnect the battery for a couple minutes to erase the codes and then reconnect it. Drive the car and see if the CEL comes back.

Re: IAT Sensor: High Current
ok... I finally found the time to play around with the car... turns out, sure enough the IAT is fried... the wire harness (from the car) is broken (the clip)... but it still fits onto the sensor... I took the sensor out of the car... and there's some internal pieces hanging... so I'm certain that the sensor is busted... I have put a resistor into the harness (like an e-bay speed chip)... right now I have a 3100 ohm resistor... what would be the best hp gain/safe resistor rating... I'm still gonna get a new IAT, just want a couple extra hp out of the car...

Re: IAT Sensor: High Current
hah, that chip works wonders... my car now blows black smoke (under hard acceleration, and before shifts) but it's faster

Re: IAT Sensor: High Current
Wait, so you put a resistor in place of the IAT? That can't be good, can it? Your're going to see problems with that I believe.

you will notice black smoke under hard acceleration(runs a little richer), and a slight decrease in MPG... but I have noted less than a 3 MPG loss...
