motor rebuild questions

Okay, I want your input, even if it means nothing. I bought the D16A6 motor and it runs fine but has about 150,000 mi. on it. So, I figure I should rebuild it before I put it in. I have a couple of questions. I know the rods are the weakest point in this motor so I plan on replacing them with Eagle rods and having them balanced as well as balancing the pistons. How strong are the pistons? Can they hold a fair amount of abuse? I am gonna leave the crank alone, might have it turned depending on how it looks. I am gonna put new rod and main bearings in it. Depending on price I think I will go with Total Seal piston rings. Are there any parts I'm forgetting for the bottom end? I know the motor handles a 50 shot of NOS with the stock bottom end but with Eagle rods, Total Seal piston rings, do you guys think a 75 shot is realistic? If not, what would help make this possible. I would like your input on the above. For you info though, here is some mods I'm gonna do. HP Racing 4-2-1 header, AEM CAI, crank underdrive pulley, good clutch with lightened flywheel (not yet decided upon brand), street/strip cam, 50 shot or more NOS, plugs and wires, has a ported and polished head and throttle body. May upgrade the ignition a lil bit later with MSD SCI unit.

Why go to all that trouble for NOS? If you are rebuilding the engine rebuild it for a turbo application

If I remember correctly total seal rings cause problems unless you rebuild your engine often, dunnno if that is fact but keep it in mind.

ive seen stock motors run 75 shot, so i would say that if you build it that way you could run 100 shot.

for the bottom end, idk how radical you wanna go but you could resleeve the block, deck the block, blueprint and blance the block, knifeedge your cank and polish your crank. if you never plan on going turbo then i say up your comp ratio to 10 to 1. you should still be able to run the 100 shot

for the few interested enough in stuff other than l.e.d. wiper squirters and glow in the dark pedals, here is what I compiled today from other sources. Total Seal rings are good only for a few runs. The stock rods will be the first to give and if you replace them, you can run a 75 shot easy. but, if you run 75 shot you run a chance of melting your pistons. So, if you replace your pistons with forged pistons, you should be able to runa 100 shot. But if you run a 100 shot you run a chance of f*ing up your valvetrain because it is aluminized steel. So, upgrade that too.
So, this leads me to say...for my daily driver car, I will do a stock rebuild with decent piston rings, new crank and main bearings, new seals. Depending how the block looks, hone the block, new gaskets (head, oil pan, valve cover), new timing belt, new water pump, cam, crank underdrive, full exhaust, intake, 88-89 integra computer, clutch and flywheel and squeeze bottle after every thing is broken in nicely. Notice I say broken IN not broken!! So, does this sound good for all my fellow forum junkies? Now, who wants to buy my 17's with tres for $500? Peace
