Junkyard Parts
I have a '98 3.1L Lumina, and have found a '98 Lumina in the bone yard that has a pristine dual exhaust, rear disk brakes, and rear sway bar. Does anyone know of any issues with replacement of the brakes (mine are drum) and the exhaust? I want to get the exhaust from the cat back, with all the hangars. The exhaust is $50, so I can not pass up. Thanks for your help!

Re: Junkyard Parts
If it has cat-back duals, it's probably a 3.8 in that one. The system is different.
If it's just an aftermarket system that splits into two after the cat, go for it. Are you buying the entire wheel to wheel rear suspension? That's how I'd do it, get the whole assembly, icl struts, trailing arms and all. Then it'll be a bolt in project, for the most part. Make sure you get eveything related, brake hoses, any equalizer blocks for the brake system, E-brake cable(s) etc. Not sure if you will have any ABS isses. I wouldn't think so, as long as you have the same type signal coming from back there, that's all it should need. You might wanna check and see if part #'s are the same for disc/drum ABS control parts. Richtazz can probably help you with that, or he might just know offhand...

Re: Junkyard Parts
FOr all you 3.1L Owners. I purchased the junkyard dual exhaust from an LTZ. The unit has the exact routing of the 3.1L, except the exhaust splits at the back of the car. The flange past the cat is larger, so I slotted the holes to make it fit, otherwise, its a simple bolt-on project.
Did not get the disks yet, as this requires changing the spindle (is that whats that called on front drivers?). Anyway, for $50 bucks I got a dual exhaust in practically perfect condition. B- |

Yeah, spindle, knuckle, whatever. If they act like they don't know what you're talking about, slap them...

Re: Junkyard Parts
True, I was worried about losing mid to low-end torque through installation of the dual exhaust, but in fact, did not see any loss (seat of the pants). The vehicle actually feels a little more aggressive, but truthfully, quieter. Honestly, its somewhat hard to get a real feeling of permformance improvement, since I was having the "bucking at full throttle", so I added Sea Foam AT Treatment, and that solved my problem, so a combination of things has likely improved the performance.
I love these kind of small project... |

Re: Junkyard Parts
As a follow-up to my previous post about the addition of the LTZ dual exhaust to my '98 3.1 Lumina... I just filled my tank up with gas, after doing some significant driving. The fuel efficiency has improved by ~1 mpg. This is pretty impressive, and I'm wondering if the computer has a teach capability that will improve vehicle performance when you do things like uncork the exhaust, improve intake performance, etc. Anyone know?

Re: Junkyard Parts
Since I get so many responses here on this forum! lol
If any of you live in Northern California, and want a single exhaust in perfect condition, from the cat back, you can have it for free. Also, the original rear sway bar with brackets... all free. First come, first serve. Best regards, Barry |
