ok well i wanna get rid of my power steering. how do i find a manual steering gearbox that will fit? i cant find any for a camaro or firebird. so i was wondering if anyone knows if they all fit or if one from a s10 will fit or what? anyone know. because my buddy with a s10 just put a manual box in and its just as smooth and i want to shoot my power steering in the face.

Re: screw power steering
Im pretty sure that they are the same and should bolt into your car. Just look at his and then look at yours. How wide are his front wheels? If you get wide front tires it will get harder to turn.

Re: screw power steering
You can loop the hoses to get rid of the power steering, but power steering racks are made with a higher ratio than manual steering racks. So a power steering rack minus the PS pump would be MUCH harder to turn at low speeds than a manual rack.

Re: screw power steering
Look around, I know there are MS racks made for the 4th gen V6's (maybe all 4th gens and theyre interchangeable V6 to V8) so there must be some for 3rd gens too

Re: screw power steering
You would have to convert the thirdgen to accept power racks though. You could dump 1000 dollars in a tubular kmember and a arms and have it setup up for a ps rack.

Re: screw power steering
i dont want power steering at all, it drags on my motor and it makes it shut off every once and a while and clutters up the engine bay more. just want to get rid of it, one less thing to break.

Re: screw power steering
if the power steering is causing your engine to stall out there is something wrong if ti were the pump binding you mite get squeel from the belt,if not the pump you mite find that you have a problem with your engine
