Hatch struts
has anyone ever had problems with their crx hatch struts after installing a spoiler?...my car came with one and the struts have never held the weight...so I got a couple of sets from the wreckers, which were the right size and put them in, they still won't hold the weight...the struts I have are super strong, so I thought maybe the 30-40 pound spoiler may be getting in the way...when I remove the bottom strut mounting bolts and move them toward the rear of the car an inch or so the struts seem to hold the weight. So my idea now is to get some struts an inch or so shorter and drill out holes for the strut mounting holes toward the rear of the car...I don't really want to drill holes and would appreciate any info you guys have on this issue
Thanx in advance

Re: Hatch struts
Get stronger struts...old ones dont hold well anyway, and that spoiler cant be helping..

Re: Hatch struts
I don't even have a spoiler and the hatch strut (only one cuz left side bolt hole is stripped) doesn't hold the weight. In fact, I have been using vice grips against the strut sleeve for some time but just recently it gave way and broke the damn strut arm. I'm glad my head wasn't under the hatch when it happened... $20 new at Advance Auto so I'll get my nephew who works there to get it with his discount...
EDIT: BTW, no hatch struts equals no annoying rattle...

Re: Hatch struts
Yeah because the hatch is heavier and is putting more weight down..I even took the plate out from under the loop, it worked for about 3 days..friggin thing still squeaks.

Re: Hatch struts
thanx guys...turtle gave me an idea..I never thought of taking those rattly hatch struts outta there...I might just fab up a removeable arm to hold up the hatch when I'm under it....for all the noise the friggin things make they really aren't worth having in there

Re: Hatch struts
Ive been hit in the head one too many damn times by that hatch...If its warm out or the sun is out, they will stay up (higher pressure in the cylinders), but once it cools off, or gets dark..WHACK!

I think I may do the same thing about not replacing them. I'm kind of tired of the rattle sound and I'm half deaf. I am pretty much known in the neighborhood as the one who whenever working on a car there is going to be some foul language screamed out...

Re: Hatch struts
Yeah, ive been whacked with the lock I think 3 times, and Ive hit the glass so hard it should have cracked, even my friends have hit their heads...And yet, 5 minutes ago I just pulled my driver side SI seat out of the back after bringing it home..it never budged, stayed up the whole time...
