98 Camry CE V6 - A/C light

Hello everyone,

Problem I have is when I turn the cool/heat switch all the way to maximum Heat, the A/C button light turns on. Does this turn the A/C unit on? I still get warm air from the vents not cold air. ALSO, the direction of the air is set to "windshield" icon only and it is on "fresh" air, not "recycled".

I hope I have explained this correctly.

Not absolutely positive but, I think it's normal for the A/C to turn on when you're in the defrost (windshield icon) mode. In defrost you want moisture out of the car. The A/C removes any humidity. Should be able to turn the A/C off when you push the A/C button. Yes, you'll get warm air but, not hot, hot air. Your owners manual should point this out.

RIP is correct. With the generation 4 (97-2001) the A/C comes on automatically in the defrost mode. You can not turn it off by pressing the A/C button. What has me confused however, is the fact that 007HAM says this happens when he turns the switch all the way to maximum heat. I assume he means the fan switch. When in the defrost mode the A/C will turn on at any fan speed, the lowest or the highest speed.
