Re: pepboys...

Here is a link to their corporate website. You can file a complaint here:

http://www.pepboys.com/about/contact...relations.html

I hope this helps you get your vehicle fixed. What they did was not right.

Re: pepboys...

I had the local mechanic strip the bolts on my '95. They were a $1-$3 at Auto Zone. The lug nuts are more and considered special. They don't come up on a Isuzu search at the parts store.

I am a girl and can see thats messed up right away. Why couldn't they?

Re: pepboys...

i got a call from the district manager and i am meeting with him and another store manager tomorrow to get this resolved...not only did they damage the lugs they damaged the rim by putting them on like such...and this is rim number 2...for those true rodeo enthusiasts you can clearly see those arent the proper lugnuts for the truck...but thats what they installed back when they broke off the original studds because the technician was a de de deee(carlos mencia reference)...lets just say he wears a bib and wasnt even at a red lobster

They took advantage of you because you went there. Nothing more. It's only my opinion, but "Larry, Curly, & Moe's" might be a good place to get car air fresheners and floor mats, but they are hardly a parts store, and certainly not a service center. Minimal resources, minimal training, and if they DO happen to get someone with a clue, they don't keep them very long. This example is just one in hundreds. They are reaching the limits of their abilities with a simple tire rotation/installation. That alone should be an indication.

Try really hard and make it happen. If you never go there, the only thing you'll be missing is the latest trends in neon and chinese wheels.

Doesn't that just about convince you to acquire a decent floor jack and pair of jack stands? The $20 you might have spent for the rotation would have just about got you a decent pair of jack stands. The money you will spend to repair this would probably pay for most of a good floor jack. And you get to do it all over again in 7,500 miles when the tire rotation is due again.

I've found that I really don't save any time or money doing my own repairs, but I save a lot of frustration. In the long haul, by avoiding this kind of thing, I probably do save money and time. Between subsequent repairs, rework, rental cars, towing charges, etcetera, it's not worth it to try to find a decent and reasonable repair shop.

The anti seize on the lugs and studs makes it difficult to tell, but they undoubtedly buried the nuts into the wheels. I'd never allow anyone to install wheels with an impact wrench set to more than 50 ft/lb. Almost all current vehicles have a specification for wheel lug torque, and almost no one at these places understands or respects that fact. The "torque sticks" that they use to "limit torque" from impact wrenches just don't work like they should. If someone were to walk toward me with one of those as a "tool", he'd probably end up walking away, bow-legged, with a new "implant" and no tool...

Lug torque is important not only for security, but to assure that rotors and hubs are not warped, and alloy wheels are not distorted.

You now have a little work to do - Or pay for.

Re: pepboys...

If you have a "America's Tire Co." or "Discount Tire Co." nearby, they do a good job. They hand loosen and hand tighten the lug nuts to spec. I get free rotations and balancing from them cuz I bought my tires there and they've even fixed a flat for free.

It is unfortunate because they are a few minutes from me. So I started going to pepboys. I hated it every time I was in there. The employees were rude and unhelpfull to say the least, but it never made much sense to go hunting down another store for easy things like fluids. A napa went in right next door to PB's about a year ago. I go there sometimes, but they close early. Finally about a year ago I did go hunting for a store and found an advance not too far away. They are great and so helpful there. Any question I have they answer. I go to an autozone as well near my work at times as well, especially to get codes read. I've needed a lot of codes read lately.
