2004 mustang gt vs 05 hemi charger

Well i was heading back from my gfs house on rt 4 here in NJ and in the middle lane ahead of me i spotted an 05 hemi charger. I could tell it was a hemi by the duals and r/t badging. So i proceed to pase him at about 70 he looks over at me and nods so i downshift to 3rd and floor it. He does the same i guess by clicking down his automanual into what i would think would be either 3rd or 4th, i dont know with that transmission. Any ways we stay exactly even till about 95 where i then pulled about half a car and we stayed like that till we shut down at about 110. He gave me a friendly honk and then turned off. I must say i was surprised by how my car performed since all i have is a mac catback and a mac cia. Anyway it was a good race

nice kill...hey are the Charger SRT8's out yet? I swear to god i saw one yesterday at mcDonalds. Said SRT on the grill and the headlights looked bad as hell just like in the pictures. And even had the little SRT scoop on the hood.

Re: 2004 mustang gt vs 05 hemi charger

Yeah, the SRT-8's are out now.

The Hemi Chargers, I feel... are a joke. When I had my LS1 Z28, I raced one on the freeway he had some aftermarket exhaust that made all sorts of noise. Infact my buddy and I didn't know if he was really on it, who was on it... all we heard was noise then we realised the Charger ahead of us was slowly pulling away.

I was able to screw around with him without leaving 6th gear. I dropped to 5th a few times just to screw around. When I thought he was going to get serious and really go for it, I dropped to 4th gear... I'm assuming he heard my car riding in 4th... so he backed off. After that, I wasn't too impressed with the normal 5.7L Hemi... well I never have...

Dodge makes such a big stink over 350hp from the Hemi and everybody buys into it... except when you think about it, Chevy had been making 350hp from the 5.7L LS1 since back in 1997... Um... Way to go Dodge?

Re: 2004 mustang gt vs 05 hemi charger

^^ I think part of the reason is because of its name "Hemi" nad also because its in their truck. The LS1 was never put into any practical chevy truck was it? I know they had the 5.7 in some of their trucks but they were only putting out 200 and some hp. And even now Ford, Chevy, Nissan, etc dont have anything in there light duty trucks with anything over 350hp.....no? I think the Chevy 5.3L is like 295 now, Nissans is 305 and Ford's is....well I dont know about Ford's F-150. I'd say around 290-305hp.

Re: 2004 mustang gt vs 05 hemi charger

True, they never put the LS1 into the trucks... but they did have the truck versions. Which were just Iron blocks, aluminum heads, and a different intake manifold.

Basically a mellowed down LS1, I forget the designation of the truck motors. I believe the 6.0L was the LQ9? Anywho... trucks just aren't made for big 'HP'. They're designed for good torque down low to do the whole truck thing. Haul crap around... kids... boats... you name it.

I'm also not really impressed with the Hemi's fuel economy. I've heard of people who have the Hemi Quadcabs that get 10mpg city, 12-14mpg highway. Ugh... wow. Of course, the Chevy, Ford, Nissan and Toyota counterparts aren't that far off, but from what I've heard from folks who own various trucks. It seems the Hemi's get the worst milege.

Which is why I'm such a big fan of Turbo-Diesel power in the larger trucks. Currently, Diesel is the same price as regular or just a hair above regular. But, it's far more efficient. Plus it sounds cool.

to this post ^^. espescially the part about torque, hp numbers really dont matter on trucks.

Re: 2004 mustang gt vs 05 hemi charger

^^^ I agree. I was just stating that was one of the main reasons for their sales. Is because people like hearing that and have bit into it. I'm with you on the diesels Red. I drive a Cummnins turbo almost everyday and I love the sound and smell of the diesel. They are more efficent too. We haul around 20,000lbs on the back of that thing for a week in the city and it still gets about 12 mpg. The only draw back is how slow they come stock. On the other hand they can be made pretty fast with a chip, full exhaust, and bigger turbo. Finally, they also tend to run a lot longer than your standard gasoline engine. And if you have some time on your hands you could make yourself some bio-diesel for less than half the price.

Re: 2004 mustang gt vs 05 hemi charger

not to mention that nissan probrably underrated their V8 when dodge overrated their hemi v8. every single nissan v8 truck is measurably faster then the dodge hemi trucks even though the hemi is so rated a considerable amount higher hp.

Re: 2004 mustang gt vs 05 hemi charger

I really like those new Nissan trucks...

And I have a friend who is a big MOPAR head, and well...everyone knows they are crazy...but I digress...

I'd take one of the new Mustang's over one of the new Charger's any day...3K less new...and 500 Lb's lighter...not to mention...IMO it looks a lot nicer than the charger...just my 2 cents

Re: 2004 mustang gt vs 05 hemi charger

you know whats really a shame, the fact that the mustang continued, and the charger was reborn, while the f-bird and camaro were killed off, i mean the gto is great and all but i'm hoping gm releases that new camaro at least (pretty sure there's no chance the f-bird will be reborn) i'm thinking theres a good chance the 6.0L V8 could take both those cars..

I wish they would start making the Camaro agian. Say what you will about the retro styled cars but I love how their new 2007 concept Camaro looks.

Re: 2004 mustang gt vs 05 hemi charger

What's the HP rating on the SRT8 chargers? i thought it was 425hp wasn't it? With that much power on tap (IF that is indeed what they have) seems like it should move pretty good. But maybe they're not geared real well. AND i know the platform they are based on is a pretty heavy platform.

Good kill!

Anyhow, you people complaining about the Hemi's performance, well, look at the boats that they are putting it in. I'll just be glad if they make the Challenger. A proper rebirth, not the bastardization that the Charger is. You guys talk about the Nissan trucks, they aren’t too fast either. My dad has roasted one in his 300M and his Hemi Jeep and they don’t complain about the gas mileage on the Jeep either.
