Well gee, seeing as how they're the only good HONDA/ACURA engiens that don't cost a fortune i guess they would be popular with the HONDA/ACURA crowd.

Ha! Every company, be it japanese or american has their own version of this. Hell, my cousin's 91 Protege GT has a mazda version on VTEC.

Ok, I'm sorry but i don't know of ANY honda engine, except for the S2000's F20, that can Rev to 9000RPM stock. At least without exploding..

The article said 8k TO 9k. I believe a Type R Teg can rev to 8 or 8100 not sure. And I think that Moppies SIR can rev to 8 as well.

Many of the B18's can turn in the high 7's and it doesnt take much to make them turn past 8 without self-distructing.

I liked that article and I didnt think that there was any BS in it at all.

BTW, if whatever valve timing system that is in your friends mazda was as good as vtec, then it would have become as well known and as popular as vtec itself. Ford would have stolen it and used it on all their cars. Vtec is one of the best variable valve timing systems in regards to being economical and sporty at the same time.
