02 Cavalier AC/Heat problem

I have a 02 Cavalier with around 83000 miles on it. I noticed last summer that when I put the A/C on the RPMs would go crazy when I was stopped and then the car would stall. Also, the air was actually getting warm. I thought it was just the A/C but found the same problem in the winter when using the heater. Although, the heater still worked, I could never have it on when I was stopped.

I took it to one place and since they couldnt get the problem mimiced I never found out what was really wrong with it. I just dont' want to spend a ton of money trying to figure out what this is so If anyone has some idea I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: 02 Cavalier AC/Heat problem

i really dont understand what your saying, it was too jumbled... if i were you, replace the altinator belt on the car, that drives your ac compressor... then if that doesnt work for 10 bucks.... prolly less.... try replacing the ac compressor... that i dont know how much... it might be cheap if you can do it yourself.... if not labor might be the killer... i remember my truck doing the same... except mine came in bursts... it would be at 2000 rpm, at a stoplight, then go down to 1000... and continuoulsy do that until i turned off the air or until it died... it doesnt do it anymore because we replaced those two things.... i hope it works for you....

Re: 02 Cavalier AC/Heat problem

oh and when i drove i actually felt a slight more performance because of the higher rpm thing... it pulled more in higher gears... so i think it has to do with the belt... good luck
