86 Ram Van Overcharging!
Hi all, My '86 B150 is overcharging and cooking the battery. The old alternator went bad a month ago and I replaced it. No problems untill a week ago when the ammeter started showing a high charge rate intermittingly. Now, it shows a high charge all the time. I replaced the regulator this morning and it still is overcharging! Any Ideas? Thanks!

Re: 86 Ram Van Overcharging!
The alternator I got was an OEM reman. 60 amp just like the old one. I've been checking every wire in the charging system, they're all okay. Still, I'm getting almost 15 volts to the battery constantly! All my book says about overcharging is to replace the regulator which I did with no difference.

Re: 86 Ram Van Overcharging!
Something is wrong with the replacement alternator. possibly one field is shorted to ground, like the old insulator is cracked on the spade tab.
