1990 lumina idle to low
hey i just bought a 1990 chevy lumina euro 3.1 sedan and the lady i bought it off of said when she bought it she blew up the engine and had it replaced under warrenty and the engine now only has 40,xxxkms, now the problem is when i start the car in park it doesnt idle high enough and will stall if i dont give it enough gas to keep it idle high enough and when i come to a red light or stop sign i have to keep my foot on the gas and brake on until the car warms up or it will stall, after about 20 minutes aslong as i brake slowly it wont stall(with foot off gas) now im a honda civic man i know nothing about these cars but ive been told i need to turn up my idle, also my spedometer doesnt work most of the time, when the car warms up it will start to work for a little bit then when i stop it drops to 0 and doesnt work again, any ideas will help alot.
edit: just reading the forum i just got a new battery yesterday and befor that we had to keep switching batterys, im going to try what that post says but any ideas still will help just incase. thanks |

I tried to replay to this but every time I replay to anything it sayd my message is to short, so my 10 minutes of typing just went out the window.
www.wbodysource.com is your friend. That aside you need to idle-relearn. Pull your 15A ECM fuse than do the procedure. You can find it at the top of the forums. Also check your VSS, it might be bad or you might have a loose wire |

Re: 1990 lumina idle to low
If the idle relearn doesn't help, the EGR might be stuck open, causing it to run like crap when cold but ok when warmed up, or the IAC valve is gummed up, which would cause the same issues.
