posi rear end
Since I beefed up my 4.3, I can't get a good hook-up on launch. The right rear tire, due to torque lift of the rear axle on that side just smokes. The truck is a 4 X 2.
Do you guys think a limited slip would work? I don't want any lockers in it as it is a daily driver. Who makes a good aftermarket diff that is not too hard to install and what would be the cost with installation if I chose to have a rear end shop do it to get the ring and pinion right? Also, what ratio would be recommended if I have an option? You all have been very helpful in the past. Looking once again for your opinions. Later... eti engineer

I have the factory posi in my Blazer and they seem to realy work nicely. The only time that it acted funny was once when I went through a ditch where I was 3 wheeling in in 2wd onto the pavement while going around a corner. To my suprise it just didn't unlock until I took my foot off the throttle.
I've got a friend running the same locker in his S10 with a beefed up 350, again without any complaints. I can't see how any of us can help you find the proper ratio, since we really don't know what you drive like, how much power you have back there or what you drive down (lots of corners, race track, lots of hills, ect). If your happy with the stock gearing keep it there, if not bump it in the direction that you want My friend actually has 2 rear ends built with different gearing, and changes them for the conditions (it's a driver during the week, and a 1/4 miler during the weekend)

Good point on the ratio info. The truck is used at freeway speeds mainly, but around town, I love blowing these guys away who think their Hondas, Mitsubishis and the like with coffee can mufflers are so hot, you know, the buzzbombs... I also blow away a lot of V-8's. I have enough low end torque on this thing not that I could probably use some taller gears, but second gear is really strong right now. I can hit 0-60 in around 7 seconds, which isn't too shabby, but I still have wheel spin no matter how I try to launch, and I have 25560R15 soft comp Dunlops GT Qualifiers on it right now. I have left the rest of the truck stock so no one will suspect. It surprises a lot of people. So any opinions by guys like you and dmbrisket and some of the fanatics will be appreciated and valued. Gotta runnn.. My wife is dragging me to the local Asparagus Festival in Stockton, CA. We both love asparagus, though so it should be a trip. Later... eti engineer

I have a '97 s10, 2.2, 5sp. Recently installed factory posi with 3.73 (from 4.10 - for better fuel mileage). While it's only a 4 banger, it would easily spin just one side. Now it hooks up very nicely.

The aftermarket lockers that have you remove the side/spider gears work great. They ratchet a bit and are kind of clunky in the rain but as far as performance on the street they're awesome.

I forgot to mention that I have the 4L60E automatic tranny in the truck. I think the gears are 3.73 as they stand. I think they are ok, but like I said, I might even do better with some taller gears, if the tranny is up to it. How is this tranny? I have had no problems with it so far... Developed, my neighbor was the service manager at one of the local Chevy places and he took my VIN number and tried to match it to a Posi rear end option and it would not match up. So, the rear end you have comes from the dealer? Did you have them install it? How much? I was wondering if there was an aftermarket rear end available... Anyhow, any more input would be appreciated. I would like to get a few opinions later.. eti engineer

My friend actually took one of his posi's from my parts blazer before I bought it from him. A mechanic friend of mine did the conversion (from the 4wd diff, to the 2wd diff) and never had any problems.

The 4l60e is a great trans. Stock it can handle some power, for a while 300ish hp maybe more but if you need to get it built you can get some pretty impressive power through it no prob.

Thanks for the info so far. There is a good rear-end shop here. They built a drive shaft for my truck which got rid of those miserable double cardan joints and I have yet to break it. They told me I won't be able to, so I am hoping they are correct. It only cost 300 bucks, so I am assuming they are reasonable.
I will check with them and see what they can do. If I run into some good info on aftermarket stuff, I will pass it along. Again, thanks for the input... Later... eti engineer
