Change out the turn signal, wiper switch?
I was wondering if anybody has any experience with changing out the turn signal, wiper switch? My car is a 1995 LaSabre with an air bag on the steering wheel. Is it very involved? Difficult? Is it best to take it to the dealer and have them switch it out? What is the cost of having the dealer do the switch? Any information greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Re: Change out the turn signal, wiper switch?
It shouldn't be difficult to do, assuming it has a similar column to mine. All you should have to do is pop off a plastic piece between the signal knob and the tilt knob. You should be able to access the end of the electrical harness for the knob. Unclip the ends and then simply pull the whole switch assembly out.

You mean unclip the electrical harness wire that exists the switch? Do I just pull the switch handle out? Where did you buy your replacement switch? From the GM dealer or aftermarket?

Re: Change out the turn signal, wiper switch?
If it is similar to the older syle (as in 1990ish), which I am fairly sure it is, there should be a length of wire that runs into the column itself. This wire has a harness about 3 inches after it leaves the switch itself. To access the harness, you will probably have to pop off a plastic panel somewhere around the switch. After you've accessed and unclipped the harness, all you should have to do to the switch is just tug on it and it'll pop out.
I got a replacement from a spare column I had in my wrecked car in my back yard, but they are pretty common to pick up at a junkyard too, and probably are fairly cheap as well. If not, there is always Ebay. Anyone else have a 95 vehicle to help clarify and update my info?

Re: Change out the turn signal, wiper switch?
Which model years of LeSabres share the same turn signal switches as the 1995 LaSabre?

Re: Change out the turn signal, wiper switch?
Off the top my head, 91-96 share the same body style (not for sure tho). However, GM is nice about using the same part over and over on many cars so if you go to a junk yard they'll certainly have one. If not, then there is something wrong with that junkyard...

Re: Change out the turn signal, wiper switch?
Will a 1993 turn signal lever work on my 1995 Lesabre custom? I found a turn signal lever at 1a auto for 39.00 dollars with a light blue connector which they say works up until 1993. I also found an acdelco one at rock auto for 99.00 dollars with a black connector like mine which they say works for a 95 lesabre. My cruise control does not work and my wipers are starting to malfunction. The wipers sometimes do not turn off. I believe that the turn signal lever which controls the wipers and cruise control is at fault. Information greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Change out the turn signal, wiper switch?
The switch could be at fault. However, the wiper motor could be weak and your vacuum lines to your cruise control could be leaky. $39-99 seems a bit high to me for a signal switch though, espeically for such a common part....why not get one from a junkyard? They could match you one without any problems either and probably for 1/3-1/5 the cost of new.
