1996 Stalled then No start situation
Couple questions here...hopefully someone is able to help me out.
First off, going down the road and it stalled on me, 96 2.2L Sunfire. Tried to restart it and no go, had to get it towed. Its getting fuel, so i ruled out the fuel pump. I replaced the ICM, coils and plugs and noticed im not getting any spark! What else should i check or replace? As far as no spark, would a broken timing chain cause a 'no spark' situation? After ripping the intake manifold off to get to the coils im literally !!And how bout some information on the crankshaft sensor and camshaft sensor? i didnt replace these components yet but wondering if i should, from what i read, if these sensors go bad it wont make the engine stall, so i assumed it wouldnt be them. Any ideas, anyone?? Thanks very much! |

Re: 1996 Stalled then No start situation
hum thats odd, did u check ur distrubuter cap? that may cause an issue, now when u start it does it sound like it wants to or does it just do nothing when u turn that key? also do u have an aftermarket deck? a loose wire, liek the 12v power wire could make u stall, ive had it happen the wire came loose and the car stopped running.

Re: 1996 Stalled then No start situation
This is a DIS, no cap on this car. no loose wires either, went over it very well, starting to wonder about the timing chain though, gonna check it tommorow, would a broken chain cause no spark? i suppose its possible since the camshaft wouldnt turn thus the camshaft sensor wouldnt send a signal, im no expert though, thats why i came here and asked....lol
Okay, an update...I removed the valve cover and had someone try to start it while i watched the rockers, they are moving as usual so that rules out timing chain being broke, now i am assuming i should change the camshaft and crankshaft sensors?? Last edited by mkilla; 04-23-2006 at 10:13 AM. |
