Re: 96 Aurora AC blows hot and cold
I would actually advise against filling it yourself, primarily because I don't think that is his problem.
My guess is that you have a bad blend-door motor. WHenever you change the climate, which side has a temperature change? |

Re: 96 Aurora AC blows hot and cold
It is a low freon problem! I had the dealership diagnose "bad compressor" "bad blend door" ... $1400 later same problem occurred. A mechanic friend added .5 lb of freon and Ice Cold air from driver side. I have had my system leak checked multiple times dealer and others and never detected but I need to add .5 lb freon about every 6-8 months. This is a cheap solution for about 3 years now. (Much cheaper than $1400)

Re: 96 Aurora AC blows hot and cold
ronhammer, be sure to add "Pag" oil ,about 2oz, every time you add 134a. If you don't you will lose your compressor. When you lose freon from the system you also lose oil after a couple of charges there is no more oil in the system. Compress destroyed, Big Bucks

Re: 96 Aurora AC blows hot and cold
i am having the same problem with my 97. it worked until last week. then the drivers side started blowing hot air. the passenger side is ice cold. i took it to a mechanic friend and he called me today to tell me he is stumped with this system. he suggested the dealer. i called and they said it is probably the programmer costing at least $800. have you tried to recharge your system yet. did it work?

Re: 96 Aurora AC blows hot and cold
My 1995 aurora is leaking antufreeze. It is not upper or lower hose, it is not the radiator, it ia not small hose. It is on the driver's side past the radiator hoses. I can not see where it is coming from exactlu but it looks like it is somewhere around the housing that the lower radiator hose attaches.
On certain cars you can see the little hole under the water pump to see if it was leaking. It started out just as a drip and now it just really leaks out. Please advise |

Re: 96 Aurora AC blows hot and cold
Pull some plastic covers out of the way on the front/drivers side of the motor.
On the front head/drivers side, you can see a small belt pulley with a small skinny belt on it...follow it down to the water pump...is that where your leak is? If so, a repair manual will help you. A waterpump socket will be needed, I got one for $19 at the local chain type auto parts store. It's not as difficult as an old Chevy Malibu water pump change....and they were fairly easy. |

Re: 96 Aurora AC blows hot and cold
why would low freon cause one side to be hot and one side cold? are there 2 evaporators?
if theres only one evaporator (as I suspect), it can only get the same level of cool UNLESS there is a blend door issue (where the drivers side is getting heat from the heater core and the passenger side is getting air thru the evaporator). |
