So I had a street race with a lightly modded Civic

Well I was driving to go pick my sister up at work and its about 8:00 pm when this car was tailgating me for about a mile. My cars a Focus sedan by the way. Well I speed up to 75(65 speed limit on this part of the freeway). Then he speeds up to 75. I speed up to 80 so he does. So I just gun the car to get him off my back. So he guns it too. I'm passing a bunch of cars then when there was no more cars to pass he tries coming up to the side. Well I still didn't have the pedal all the way to the floor so I slam the pedal to the floor. So I speed up to 125 mph. I'm about 4 car lengths ahead of him and he's going about 110 mph.

So now my exits coming up and its either go now or keep going 50 miles just to turn around. So I flip the turn signal on to tell him this is where the race is gonna end. So I get off on my exit and he speeds by the exit acting like he was the bad ass that won. I was ahead of him since the race started and I stayed ahead for about 3 miles. Leave to a guy that only has a short ram intake and a fart can on a Civic thinks he the bad ass. I don't hate the car I just hate how people think the car is faster than anything else.

The thing is my Focus is stock and really not that fast and I easily whooped his ass. Do I think my car is bad ass now. No I don't. Even when I do get my parts in the mail soon I'm not gonna act like this car is the fastest thing in town. Cause I have a 75 Trans Am that I know could easily beat my car. Like I said before I don't hate the Civic I just hate the way people glorify it like the Holy Grail.

The only reason they do that is becuase its easy to tune. Huge aftermarket for the Civic. I don't care for them either, espically the guys who are runnin CRX's...espically the HF's...I just laugh

I know its because there popular and easy to tune. Which is nothing bad for a car but when every other damn guy that just got his license it gets annoying. I admit there are nice Civics out there but most of them shouldn't even be allowed to be treated by people the way they are right now.

Agreed...there are some really well done Civics...but it seems that most of the people that are driving them are teenagers with God-awful body kits and giant aluminum wings on the back ends.

Aparantly no one told them that FWD cars having rear down-force doesn't help...but those are probably the same people that come on here asking if their Ebay coil-overs will work with their stock struts or which intake is best.

Re: So I had a street race with a lightly modded Civic

Nice run. Yeah there are fast Civics out there but the majority that I come across are fitted with a fart can and a body kit. Oh well, what can ya do except keep putting em' in their place.

Omen: down force can help with FWD cars too. Just because the rear wheels arent pulling the back can still use down force for some stabability. Although to the average Joe you dont really NEED it. Same goes with the average Joe driving a RWD car. Most people with spoilers dont really really need to have them for performance purposes.

Like I said the Civic is really a great car thats been given a bad reputation by teenagers that seem to know how to do every mod on their car yet don't even know what cylinder head is or what a crankshaft is.

On the contrary my friend. Added downforce on the back of a FWD car can actually help just as much as downforce on the back of a RWD car.

not to mention they have wings that actually reduce lift which actually helps keeps the front wheels on the ground.

Yepp.

But I don't think he was talking about those. Hell, if I knew how big of a hit the Fast and the Furious was going to be, I would have bought mass quantities of the gay 100 dollar aluminum spoilers and made a massive profit.

Yeah I took the governor off. Cause it would only go 115 before the governor kicks in. I had a friend who knew how to do it take it off. I'm still not use to newer cars. I'm use to older cars where they didn't have computers in them.

Re: So I had a street race with a lightly modded Civic

Ouch...owned...again...

I just have the shittiest luck with that kinda thing

And not to sound like an ass, but what would be the point in putting rear downforce on a FWD car? I understand that it will help to keep the rear wheels on the ground, but unless your autcutally going to race the thing, wouldn't it almost be more of a hinderance than a postive addition to the car?

I mean if you adjust the spoiler incorrectly, wouldn't you just increase the drag co-efficent on the car? It would almost be like having a parachute on the back of the car right which would slow it down, and isn't that the complete opposite reason for putting it on?

Not to mention that any downforce on the back of the car would push the back end up, which would decrease the contact patch of the front tires, and considering that's where the power is going, is a bad thing...right?

I mean I totaly respect all of your in-sight, but considering you guys all drive RWD vehicles, well, isn't your view going to be totaly different, becase you can auctually use the downforce thats being made to an advantage.

Yes, in most cases the wings you see on cars are worthless. That is why its often considered a form of rice. If you have it on an actual race car it can help. And down force on the back end would lift the front end up, not the back end.
