Angry 2?'s

I think my brakes are going bad, when i press on them to slow down or stop the steering wheel starts to shake left and right and i barely slow down. so my first ? is are my brakes bad and need replaced?

2 ? is my service engine light came on tonight, i went and got it scanned at an auto parts store, the 2 codes that came up were P0402 EGR Flow Excessive, what does that mean? what needs repaired? how much will it cost?

thanks for the help

Re: 2?'s

You don't say what year model etc of taurus you have, for the brakes it's not that much of an issue so if your steering wheel is shaking when you brake, it's likely warped rotors. If you have to change them it's probably time to change the pads too.

As far as the EGR code, it's either the egr valve or the dpfe sensor, both are common to fail on these cars, others can explain this one better than i can. Also, the other info I mentioned before would help get you clearer responses.

Re: 2?'s

The P0402 is usually and DPFE sensor, Ford quit paying us to even run diagnostics on the code and just had us plug in a new sensor. I do have some good news for you, though. Several cars had their DPFE sensors recalled so you might be eligble for a free one. Call your local dealership with the VIN number and they should be able to tell you in two minutes.

Re: 2?'s

Lots of hard braking heats up the rotors and is common that rotors warp. If you've never had your brakes worked on likely you can have the front rotors trued, the cost isn't excessive. I've taken rotors to the auto tech school at my local J.C. and they do them for $1 ea. Where I live a store "Just Brakes" does all 4 wheels, trues drums/rotors for $99 if only the linings are required. Comes with a lifetime warranty on the linings - now how can you beat that?
