95 Ford Aerostar Shift Linkage

I was attempting to adjust automatic shift linkage since i couldn't put it in park. worked , but didn't align with column gauges P R N OD D etc.., tried it again and snapped small plastic piece near adjuster. Is there away to take a used cable and splice together with old cable, without having to replace whole shift linkage?? On a tight budget, would cost like $200 to have shop do it.
