Question 95 GT Convertable Top problem

I have a 95 Mustang GT 5.0 Convertable. The top stopped working. I was putting it up one day and herd a loud pop and it stopped working. The motor runs and you can pull the top up to latch closed or push down to open up. However the motor will not move the top at all. The driver side wants to move the top but the passenger side will not move the top. I had a collision place take a quick look while I had it in to replace both door window regulators. He said he could not figure it out. The motor is a non-servicable type with a plug on the right side of the motor. He did not check the fluid level because he was told you have to bleed the system if you did this. Also when he took the back seat out he found a little bit of what may have been some ATF fluid. Anyone have suggestions on how to repair this or replace the motor out right or just pony up the cash and have a professional interior shop do the work.
