1996 Toyota Camry Starting Problem
I have bought a 1996 Toyota Camry having 105 k miles on it. My Car is giving starting problem when its cold.When I start the engine, it starts but immediately it stops after some time.If I press accelarator, it does not give any problem and it starts perfectly.
Please let me know what the problem? And One more things when I stop my car after driving 10-15 miles. Small Ticking noise comes in front of the Car? What could be cause for that. Please guide. Thanks, Ashish |

There could be a few reasons for the problem. The Idle Air Control valve may be dirty or defective. It could just need a basic tuneup which would include plugs, wires etc. From you description my first guess would be the IAC as mentioned. You can do a search for the procedure to clean the IAC or pick up a manual which will explain it.

I agree the first thing to do is clean the idle air control valve. On problem 2, you could be hearing the normal contracting of the exhaust system as it is cooling down. I have heard it described as a ticking noise before. Mike |

... after that, look at the cold start injector circuit. What type engine do you have and are you getting any fault codes? Are you planning on fixing this yourself? Can you use a meter?
