power windows, need help~!~~

Ok, The windows in my 98 TA seem to have a mind of their own. Ive replaced both the motor and driver side power switch. I still cant get the windows to move when i want them too. What am i missing out on here???

how about your regulator?? is it good??

Are they getting power? (Relay in fuse pannel)

relay??? well the fuse is good, its the same as the power seats. so i switched them around...seat still works. how i check the regulator, where is it located? inside the door around the motor?

unreal.......i found the problem. so simple,yet these monkeys that make the technical manuals forget to mention it. There is a plastic molding where the hood latch release is at. remove it and right in front is a nice shiny 1/2 nut that has the 2 black ground wires for the windows. all the vibration over the years ive had the car had loosen it, i cant believe that was the simplest of solutions. Although with a new motor, the window does move alot faster. So it was a learning experience. maybe this will help others out that might have the same problems with power windows.

Good catch! We need more people like you on the board! Did you have a drill to get the rivets out? GOD I hate that part.

Im just waiting for it as well ...

My window motors, like all 4gens, are so damned slow.
I'm starting to think about putting one of the last year fbird window motors in (probably will take fabrication) to speed em up

BTW That ground you speak of, I just grounded my satellite radio there

Thats a convenient ass place for gm to stick a ground.

before l replaced mines, mines were soo slow (dying) but now, they are so fast.. about drilling?? I LOVE THAT PART.. the only thing that l hate is putting the door panel back.. but right know in 15mins, l can replace window motor, it is so easy to me anymore..

If you do it in 15 mins then you take the easy way and drill thru the door to get to the motor rivets. I will never drill thru my door, I drill the mounting rivets out of the door & replace them with bolts so I can take the whole motor assembly out, takes a little longer but I don't like the idea of drilling thru my door. Just like everything else, its worth a little more time to do it right.

Yes i did drill through the door panel and drill out the rivets. I took a larger drill bit and it was nothing to shred the end of the rivets. I had a smaller bit that was like drilling dead center of the rivet and it wouldnt do anything to it.

So, i wised up and used the larger bit, no problem. Ya, i didnt care for drilling through the panel but i used a small hand file to make the holes nice and neat. After a min. of thinking i had a 2 part epoxy that you mix. 1 is black, the other is gray...so when you mix it..its like a dark or light gray depends on how much you use. but anyways i mixed that up and covered my holes up. the stuff is like concrete, after it dried i sanded smooth. Of course no one in the world is goin to see this but me, just nice knowing i didnt do a sloppy job.
