AC doesn't work! (2002 Chevy Venture)

A/C only blows warm, when i turn on the a/c the clutch does not engage. I checked all the fuses and they appear to be o.k.

my 02 venture ls with 56k is doing the EXACT same thing!!! i also checked the same EXACT items that you did! my a/c system was repaired at around 29k under warranty, but it would have cost about $1000. i asked my dealer to work with me, since i'm now out of warranty, since it was only 2 years ago, and because i do a lot of business there. he said he would. my appointment is in 2 weeks. and it's getting hot where i live!

What was wrong with your A/C the first time? My Venture is at about 52,000.

the entire compressor had to be replaced. when it quit that time, the compressor was hissing. it was quite a job tho-they had to take many things apart under the hood. unfortunately, my appointment isn't until may 5.

I remember when we had our 01 venture, the a/c went out twice. The first time around 30k miles and then again around 45k miles. It was the compressor both times, but we didn't get it fixed the 2nd cause it was out of warranty. I think they fail a lot because they are susceptible to rocks hitting them.

my ac is now fixed . i had a nice conversation with my dealer's service manager. i let him know that the compressor was replaced, while under warranty, only 2 years ago. i told him that i expected it to last longer than that-even tho the warranty on the ac system, after it was fixed back then, was only 1 year/12,000 miles. he agreed and since i spend a lot of money there for service, recent body shop work, vehicle purchases, etc on a family of 5 chevrolets, he called his district rep for approval to fix the ac free of charge. good-the part alone was quoted at $700!!! i love my dealer!

I have an 02 Venture with only 35,000 kms. I hope this doesnt happen down the road..is there anything I can to do prevent it? Any recalls?

No recalls that I know of (especially since A/C is a "comfort" item - not safety related).

As for preventing the problem:

Since it seems that a "crack" appears near the passenger side lower mounting bracket, I might try to put some "dampening" material in there. Something that would absorb the normal vibrations that happen every day. Maybe a rubber washer or foam insulator.

Just an idea.
