Flexing muscle to assert ownership over global regions important down the road

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060421/...vereignty_dc_2

Some interesting points are raised by articles like this. As global warming continues (as a result of natural cycles, human interaction, or more likely IMO a combination of both) some of these parts of the earth that were previously frozen tundra or otherwise inhospitable to humans will become more open for utilization. Ideally, we'll use them in ways more friendly to the environment (wind farming, geothermal energy harnessing, etc.) as opposed to crap like drilling for oil and other fossil fuels, but regardless of WHAT we do with them, disputes are likely to rise as to WHO can actually do that what, and thus profit/benefit the most off of it.

Hopefully we'll ALL benefit off of the potential for new resources, and the possibility of conflicts arising as a result of disputes over territory will be minimal and handled with dignity and fairness.
