Can I use both terminals on battery ?

Got a dual post (side and top) battery and wanted to connect a charger permanently to the side posts as well as maybe a capacitor (top posts are used for everything else)...Can I simply use both terminals on the battery or would it cause problems ?

i can't see this causing any problem, but why do you want a capacitor right at the battery?
