fuel pump replacemet

im sure this has been posted once or twice before and im sorry for opening it up again, but i think i have narrowed my problem down to the fuel pump. It has never been replaced and the 94 TA has 103K miles on it. So my question is what fuel pump to put in it and and how long of a process is it going to take. It doesnt look good by the looks of things lol. I am very mechanically inclined, just never replaced a pump that was inside the tank. Any suggestions on which pump to buy and how, if any,to make the process easier would be appreciated. Im not taking the easy way out and cutting a hole in my trunk either so please dont recommend that thanks.

Re: fuel pump replacemet

I just went through the same thing with my '88. I was really not looking forward to doing it, but once I got into it, it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it'd be. As far as which one, I guess it depends on what your plans are for the car. If you're going to get into major modifications that might require a stronger fuel pump, then buy a high performance one. If not then just replace it with OEM.

Just curious, how did you narrow it down to the fuel pump? did you have a haynes manual or equivalent to go by? is the car not starting or what?

Re: fuel pump replacemet

no im not looking into doing any major mods yet, so i guess i will just go with the oem. yes the car is running, but been starting rough lately, cranks and cranks then fires.. replaced fuel filter, plugs and wires, opti-spark and still doing it. Starter checked out fine. I had the comp scoped out but no codes came back. The guy said fuel pressure was lower than norm, but not low enough to give me major problems. I figured i might as well replace it since it has never been replaced and then go from there.

Re: fuel pump replacemet

man im on the same boat but if your car is running fine i would not recommend changing the pump yet that is alot of money.
Ive changed the opti spark, plugs wires, filter and the pump(year ago) and it still is given starting problems. The car runs incredible but startingit is awful.
if i find out anything ill let you know. Im suppose to leave it at a mechanics place next week.

Re: fuel pump replacemet

ok that sounds wonderful, if you find anything out let me know. yeah i haven't started on it yet, haven't even got the car out this year, but i just dont know what else it could be.... As in your case, my car runs great once it starts. Does your car start rough all the time, because mine seems to do it more when it sits for a period of time (more than a day). Although sometimes i can go out and it will fire right up...mind boggling. well like i said you hear anything let me know...thanks
