1998 brake lights

Hi! I'm new to this board and it looks awesome already. I have a 1998 Monte Carlo that has a problem with it's brake lights when i put a turn signal on. I bought it a year ago and when I went 2 get a sticker it wouldn't have passed because the turn signal wasn't working correctly, but accidently the inspection guy put pass instead of fail into the computer. So i did get the sticker but he told me i needed to go back 2 the dealer and get a new signal switch, which i did. It worked fine 4 a little while (i think) but i was told by a friend that was following me one day that when i put me right directional on my left brake light would go out. I didn't worry toooo much about it because the brake light in rear window worked. But now i need i new sticker and i had another friend stand behind the car and he says it is now if you put the left directional on the right brake light will go out! Who knows what's going on???? Please help. I love this car. Any help would be great, Sue

Re: 1998 brake lights

Hi, I have the same car, the same problem. I switched out the bulbs, and replaced the sockets...still the same problem. If you find out what it is, please let me know!
Thanks! I'm new here too.

Re: 1998 brake lights

To clarify, you changed your turn signal switch assembly and it's still doing it?

No, I didn't change the turn signal switch assembly. The mechanic said it was the socket, and that is what I replaced, along with the bulbs. It only happens to the right side taillight.

Re: 1998 brake lights

It is either a ground at the taillight harness or a turn signal switch issue. To the person that started the thread, do the hazard lights work, both with the headlights on or off (all bulbs are on dim and flash brighter with the hazards)?
