simple piston question*compresion related*

when you install higher compression pistions . you gain power sure.
But do you have to have your computer reprogramed? reset ? what. because im sure there is a catch to this procedure. if you do have to reprogram it .. is it posible to have it done in your own shop.? .

If all else stays equal and the compression was increased and the detonation threshold was already close then timing will need to be backed off, Don't the vehicles do it automatically now?

Another option is to run a higher octane fuel.

Re: simple piston question*compresion related*

sry thought my info was in my profile :P

93 4x4 s10-blazer with the 4.3 vortec engine.

the question more is directed to computer adjustment if i were to swap out for higher compresion pistions.

main reason i would want to do this is the fact i have the engine disassembled atm. and this would probly be the easyest time to do a project such as this.

also ive seen remarks to changing the rocker arms for a performance gain. does this reflect towards a 93 4.3 vortec aswell?

and seeing i have a couple of long term posters replying here id like to ask which performance chip upgrades you recomend.aswell if K&N filters have proven any worth on this engine ive read mixed views on that in the intoduction section of this forum.

right now were basicly doing a large overhaul on this engine so any tips would be apreciated

shit son, an obdI computer is a nice one, you can do flat tops, no problem, you will need higher octain fuel though, for every one point you raise compression you increase enging power by 10%, 93 had approximently 180 horses, and 8.5:1 compression, with 10;1 you will have 15% more engin horses wich is 27 bringing you to 207.... also with the older obd system, you can do a mild camshaft in her instead of a stocker

Re: simple piston question*compresion related*

While your engine is apart really think of replacing your cam. the lifters and the rockers.

Check the spring rates on your heads and think of stainless steele valves maybe 2.00or larger.

I know that I keep talking about rockers, but this is a serious improvement for your engine, you can use full rockers on your engine year, think seriously about them.

if you do choose higher compression pistons make sure that you address all of your clearence issues. and skirt length. If this engine has high miles replace your valve guides.

If you do go with higher comp pistons have your crank looked at along with your con rods, they will be subject to much more stress.

Re: simple piston question*compresion related*

were replaceing a conrod atm thus why engine is apart. im doing all the conrod's either way here. the crank looks good from what i saw i might run emery cloth "sp" over it here to take any wear burs out but there is no nicks ect on it .

with cams how much fuel to power ratio gain are we talking .. this engine has roller tip lifters "new" so do the rockers really even aply then.. ive heard it does the same thing.
