Gas mileage is terrible!

Is there a chip that will help my 2004 Toyota Tundra 4 door get better mileage? Currently getting 12 City and 16 Hwy.

Re: Gas mileage is terrible!

Have you moved to synthetic oil yet? Just as soon as my 06 dc is broke in I'm going to mobil 1 engine oil. When I get to around 10k I'll put mobil sythetic in the rear diff. I also use mobil synthetic grease. Is there a theme here? Yes I believe in mobile synthetic but any good sythetic will do the same thing in reducing friction. Another thing is to check your air filter to make sure that it isn't clogged up choking the engine. Also check your tire pressure to make sure that they're properly inflated. Don't carry around any unneccessary weight with you.

Re: Gas mileage is terrible!

Have you always got these type of millage?
if not, it maybe time for a general tuneup
if yes, you could use a hypertech chip programer. May give you an extra mile or 2 pg.

I dont know what the deal is but i have owned a tundra for a month now and havent gotten better then 14 mpg combined. I have been reading and someone suggested resetting the ecu. by disconnecting the battery for a half hour.

I am going to try it tomorow and will let u know.

Re: Gas mileage is terrible!

Resetting the ecu by disconnecting the battery will not change anything except clearing out your trip odometer and engine oil life monitor settings.

Re: Gas mileage is terrible!

I have a 2008 5.7L V8 Tundra 4 door 4x4, and the listed miles is 14 city and 17 highway, that is what I was getting for mileage until I tried Octane Booster by STP treats 21 gallons. After adding Ocgtane Booster I started getting 20 to 21 miles to a gallon highway driving. City about 16 miles to a gallon. I have been using Octane ever since and for the added mileage it is worth the $3.47 Cent at Wal-Mart.
