98 intrigue air conditioner

I don't think I have posted this before, but does anybody know what it means if the air conditioner indicator light flashes 3-4 times when you try to turn it on and then will not stay on????? This is a nuisance and would rather not go to the dealership to find out what it means. Also anybody know where to find discount key fob replacements?

Re: 98 intrigue air conditioner

the compressor is not maintaining head pressure. Maybe it needs recharging, maybe the compressor is bad.

Re: 98 intrigue air conditioner

I have same issue. It has never cooled the car down properly, and apparently I have a leak somewhere, cause I bought one of those recharge kits with 2 bottles; and it took both of them. The pressure guage that came with the kit ( a cheapie, of course) only reads 30 - 32 lbs. pressure. There was supposedly some stop-leak in the fluid as well; am hoping that a couple of cans of this stuff will find the leak and plug it. Rather try a couple of $40 kits than take it to a dealer and get screwed big time.

Anyone had any luck with these kits, and it it unusual to take 2 19 oz. cans of the refrigerant?

Re: 98 intrigue air conditioner

This happened to mine. The dealership replaced the control (head) unit and solved the prolem. There were no other problems. It was done under warranty so I have no idea how much it would have cost.

Yes, sorry. The unit in the dash. There was nothing wrong with the a/c system itself.

Re: 98 intrigue air conditioner

I have an 01 and we have had the same problem. The dealership replaced the control module and all was fine until 2 days ago. I also had a condensor leak so we have a new one and the light still blinks. I am going to get a new control module and see if this fixs the problem again.

Re: 98 intrigue air conditioner

Are you using the AC while using your front defroster setting? (I am aware of the irony of that statement). If I'm not mistaken, the car automatically detects the optimal tempurature to defrost and won't allow you to shut it off. Try a different mode and see if the problem persists.

You do realize, don't you, that your reply is over three years after the previous post?

Re: 98 intrigue air conditioner

Yes I do. However since this is a common problem, I figured since I know the solution, why not post for others who may have the same issue? So to rebuttle your question, you do realize you're sarcastic comment was unwarranted, right?
