can I use a older 4.3l block and crank for a 96?

Hi, I have heard that I can only use a engine from a 1995 and newer(99,00) which is because of the new body style. If i use a 95(now recommended) then I have to change the computer aswell. I have a 96 blazer, the motor has a dropped rod and had actually blown out of the oil pan. One day i thought id try and see if it would turn over so i turned the key and it actually started(I poured oil into it before i tried to turn it over) So instead of buying a engine cant I use parts off of the older engines? I have a 1989 4.3l v6 in a s10 pickup and i also have a 1991 4.3l fuel injected engine from a 4 door blazer. Cant I use the crank out of either of these engines or any other parts like the block or oil pan? I am just trying to find the cheapest way to fix this blazer of mine. I already bought a tranny for this blazer with only 65,000miles on it so i no longer need a tranny. If anyone can help me out on what internal engine parts I can use could you please help me out. Thanks alot, Brian

Re: can I use a older 4.3l block and crank for a 96?

blocks older than 94 will give you problems sealing the plastic timing cover that you nee for crank position sensor. the cranks in th 89 &91 will not fit the crank pos sensor.
Read the FAQ's here and search older threads for more info.
