fan relays

I've had my car since july of last year and i have never noticed my fans turn on. even the one for the a/c stays off(a/c dont work yet so its not that big of a deal). i was wondering how hard it is to replace the relay for the fans and how its done.... anyone know? i know this is somewhat a common problem in these f bodies. mine is a '96 3.8 thanks for any help!

the car doesn't over heat. it stays at about 160. it'll raise a little bit when standing still. So its not a dire problem... just wanting to get it fixed before summer heat hits.

Maybe im wrong here but I didn't think the electric fans worked off a relay, I thought the computer controlled turing the fan on and off by cutting out the ground. Did a quick search on autozones website and couldn't find a cooling fan relay for your car. Found a heater/defrost/a/c (internal fan) relay, but not the cooling fan relay.

You could easily check to see if im right by pulling the plug on the fan, if im right you should have power there all the time (check with a test light or volt meter). Maybe someone else can chime in an either support my statements here or tell you where the relay is. Have you checked all of your fuses?

If im correct in the above statements & you have power there then pull check to see if you have a ground with the motor running and the A/C on (ohm meter between plug & engine or ground on battery). If you have power & a ground then pull your motor and try running power & a ground directly to it, see if it runs.

your computer controls your fan, when the engine reaches to certain amount of heat, computer orders the fan to work and cool it down. to replace fan relays shoudl be piece of cake.. but before u do ANYTHING, get a tester light and open your fuse box and one by one test with tester..if every fuses are fine, change the fuses places, maybe a fan fuse is plugged somehwereelse.. with tester, u will know which plug is belong to fan, which is not (if the problems is fuse, when u touch with tester to fuses, the fan should come on). or maybe your fan fuses are bad.. tester will let you know.. if u cant fix the problem with fuses, then check the fan switch and see if they are burnt and test with test light. if the light comes on the swithces but not to the fan motor, that means your fan motor is dead, if electric doesnt come on the swithc, then your switch is bad..

I checked all my fuses and i needed to replace one of them. It looked new, so i think thats the reason why didnt know to replace it in the past. The fans work now (when it reaches the right temp).The A/C fan still doesn't come on though. I think the compressor went out and/or i dont have any free-on. Would this cause the fan to not come on?
