Intercooler and Front Crankshaft Seal question
Two completely unrelated topics in one thread
![]() I'll start with the front crankshaft seal. It's leaking. I figure I'll just do a full timing belt job (inc. water pump) since I'll be in the area. I haven't done a t-belt since I got the car at 119k and I'm pretty sure I'm pressing my luck at this point. I'm also going to be loading on the mods come mid-May (see sig list) and I swore the oath on the MachV website . I'm going to be ordering this parthttp://www.rockauto.com/catalog/cata...IengineID=2327 Is there anything special I should watch out for when changing it? I've never seen the area and I don't know what I'm dealing with yet but I want to be armed with some knowledge. As far is intercoolers go, I know a lot of people do the intercoolers that have the inlet/outlet on opposite sides of the core, but I was thinking of going with this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GODSP...58235439QQrdZ1 Is it easier to run the pipes if they are both on the same side of the IC? Having never seen a FMIC pipe routing outside of pictures, I was hoping someone that's done a FMIC could give some insight. I just don't know how it all would fit in and what kind of cutting would be required. Here's the plan. I have a stock 1g J-pipe coming off my turbo that has a 1.5" or 2" opening (I'll measure when I get home from work because I don't know offhand). I figure I can run a 2" to 3" coupler and pipe it to the top inlet on the IC. Then for the outlet, I want to use my existing dejon UICP so I can keep the type-s flange. I'd get rid of the braided "S" stock portion of the UICP and couple the dejon pipe directly to the TB elbow. Then I'd run 3" piping from the outlet of the IC up to the end of the dejon pipe. Again, having never done anything like this before and not looking at the car right now, I'd like some input as to whether it is feasible or not to run the pipes like I hope. I know I'll be jumping between 2" and 3" and 2.5" but I'm not planning on making 500hp so I think that it will flow well enough. Let me know what you think. Thanks guys.

Re: Intercooler and Front Crankshaft Seal question
The front crank seal is in the oil pump cover. If it's on the outside of the cover you just have to pop out the old one with a pick of some sort without damaging the bore in the cover or the crank, and drive the new one in squarely. If it's on the inside of the cover, this becomes a whole different game. Wish I could remember where it was, maybe someone has an oil pump closer than 45 minutes away that they could reference. Or you can look up some pics.

Re: Intercooler and Front Crankshaft Seal question
From what I've read on Tuners and searching here, it's an easy job when you are doing the t-belt so I'd guess it would be on the outside. Thanks Kevin, I'll be cognizant of the bore and crank when changing it.

Re: Intercooler and Front Crankshaft Seal question
Yeah, it's on the outside and should be a breeze if you're also doing a t-belt.
