Resister question

Has anyone tried a resister and actually gotten a response? If so What size resister do i need for My car? It is a 1990 gt Celica with 2.2l and short ram intake.

I tried a 2.2k ohm but idk if that is the right size... i went to radio shack and they had sooo many to choose from so i just guessed based on what the guy was telling me.

Also all i do is plug it into the Air flow sensor correct? OR do i have to plug another one into the ecu units or any other computer part?

Re: Resister question

dont wast your time, if you want more power go buy bolts on, if you want a real cheap method of more power go out and buy SMALLER injectors

4afe has 170cc injectors and a 1 bar map sensor, i am switching to 450cc injectos and a 2 bar map sensor, times 170 by 2 and you get 340, if i had 340cc injecotrs my car would run exactly the same, but i dont i have 450cc injecotrs, therefore i will be running 32% richer automatically, so ill have to take some fuel away.
with a 2 bar map sensor your going to run VERY lean on the stock 170's youd blow your motor, you could get something like geo metro 140's and you will run a little bit lean but i would say thats safe enough, but why do all that when you can buy an safc and just pull your own fuel out?

i belive the 5sfe has 210cc injecotrs, you could swap over to 4afe injecotrs and youd gain a little bit of power but youd also be risking blowing your engine, just advance your timinge to 17 degres, run 91 oct and buy your basic bolt ons, and strip your car, anythign more then that and you will be droping $$$$ into yoru car

Re: Resister question

Alright sounds good. What would it take to switch the injectors? Will i need a new map sensor and fuel rail?

Only reason im asking about the resister is just for small stuff anyway iv done everything i can think of without spending MAJOR money for turbo or swap.
Iv gutted the rear out, Dropped it 2 inches, Gutted the cat, 2.5 in exhaust with a thrush glass pack and custom short ram intake with ram air tube ran to the bumper. The only thing i havent gotten is headers and those are next.

Are there any more bolt ons? Have i missed anything? Im taking suggestions cuz i still want more power

Re: Resister question

you could get a smaller head gasket, it should up compression and give a little more power. plus it is cheap. a good port and polish job would yeild good power and is not extremeley expensive. you coould also get some kind of control module (a real one) like venom or something. dissconnectiong the a/c compressor will yield some cheap power, but ull need a new belt. really there is not much support for the 5sfe so n/a mods are sparse.

Re: Resister question

Yeh i was thinking about getting a metal head gasket and shaving down the head a bit to get more compression and im going to ask the local machine shop how much it is to port and polish soon. Do you have any idea on average what it runs?

Its kinda depressing that the 5sfe's have no support because they could be insanly strong with some nice internals.

Re: Resister question

dont shave your head or get anything but the stock size on headgasket, it is a horrible idea and plays with your timing like hell

think every 1 time your crank goes around, your cams spin 12 times, this is called a 12:1 cam to crank ratio
you are now decreasing the distance of the belt that has to spin an exact 12:1 ratio down to a 1.89741 ratio at a .5mm headgaset, and you have no way of really controlling your timing, therefore this is a HORRIBLE way at increasing compression, just get new pistons...

as for power, off the top of my head
intake
headers
exhasut
timing goto 17 degrees
take off your ac belt, mines off and i live in hott weather
basically from there your not going to get any more power unless you start going into the engine or into your ecu, from there i would say turbo your 5sfe, it should only cost you about $1000, and you could have a fairly reliable kit

Re: Resister question

no i watched an engine first hand get fucked becuase of this, put it this way, it was an interface engine and the timing got set off so bad everything touched, SERIOUSLY changed my opinion

it isnt very bad if you have a way of manipulating both camshafts, but scince you have an f head DONT...i would say it would be okay (not good) if you did it on a car taht could have adjustable cam gears to play with the timing of the 2 cams (g head or somtihng to that extent), but not with something liek a 4afe and 5sfem, besides whats the point on spending $100 at least to have your head shaved and another $200 on gaskets and putting everything back together when you can get a set of frged pistons for $500?
