problem with a 98 corolla ce clunking sound...

hello all... i just found this forum and i thought maybe someone here can help me with my problem. I have a 98 corolla ce and when i drive the car it make clunking sound coming from my front right side . Bit if i turn the wheel to the left a little or the right the sound will go away. But once i have the wheel straight the noise comes back. Also the front right tire when the car is parked i can grab that front tire and it has a little bit of play. I tried the left side and there is no play. I've also noticed that my power steering seems to be a little harder. Please any help would be great. I don't have much money to take my car to the show so i need to repair it myself. Could this be the rack and pinion or the cv joint?

thanks,
mark
