A dual exhaust is completely useless on an inline engine. Only V-type engines benefit from dual exhaust because they have 2 seperate exhaust manifolds on either side of the engine. A seperate exhaust pipe on either side of the engine bay (1 for each row of cylinders) cuts backpressure down by allowing the exhaust gases from each side of the engine to escape at the same rate. Inline engines only have 1 exhaust manifold, and therefore dont need (nor can any inline engine have) a
true dual exhaust system.
What you probably have on your car isn't a real dual exhaust system, but rather it's a straight pipe from the engine thats split into 2 seperate pipes at the end (sort of like a "Y" shape). Believe it or not, this configuration actually
creates more backpressure by forcing the exhaust gases to go down 2 seperate holes rather than one big hole.
Hope this answers your question. And Welcome to AF.
