'98 Sonoma Tail Lamp Issues

I have a 1998 Sonoma. Yesterday the tail light went out, so today, we replaced the lamp. Now, the reverse and brake lights work (it's on the left side) but the tail light itself still doesn't work. We checked fuses, all good. I fear that this is going to be a complicated, expensive wiring matter...

Any suggestions?
