Muffler shakes HELP!!!!!

I have a 2k2 max, japenese market model...

last night my friend noticed that the muffler shakes when I start the engine.
I asked him to start the engine and I'll look at the muffler, it shakes when " starting " the engine then it calms down, just like if something is blocking it and then let's the exauhst come out, there's also a very very low strange sound coming out of it, just like if somthing is poping inside a metal container.

auh yes, there's also something, today my little brother told me that when I started the engine a black smoke came out!!

Tomorrow I'm taking it to the dealer to fix it, cause it's under warranty, but I wanna know what's wrong with it.

thank you guys!

If it is moving as much when you start it, it is just the supports that are lose, nothing serious, just have them weld it.

Black smoke is an indicator that, damnit, I forgot!!!!!! I know oil makes a bluish/white smoke. Maybe your fuel or fuel lines have a problem. Can't be certain.

Re: Muffler shakes HELP!!!!!

I believe black smoke is fuel; blue, oil; white, coolant.

Muffler shake ok

" muffler shakes when I start the engine."
- Your car is wor king... that is good.
- Take a good grip of your muffler: if you cannot clunk it to the chassis, no problem.

"when I started the engine a black smoke came out!!"
- If all is ok, black smoke will NOT come out...
- Black smoke: carbon from weak uneven combustion. There is a problem. If it comes while driving, something should be done...

If scheduled maintenance has NOT been done: change spark plugs, (distributor cap, rotor, spark wires on VG30E), air filter, fuel filter.

If maintenance has been done, its a component failure: Throttle pos sensor TPS, Mass airflow sensor, Oxygen sensor, fuel injectors. These will be seen on tests (except TPS).

All exhausts these days are hung by rubber exhaust doughnuts. They seem to be loose but all is ok.They are very secure. As mentioned before, as long as it does not contact body don't worry.Don't go welding anything. The way transverse engines {front wheel drive} torque, the exhaust system must be free to move.
Black smoke is caused by too much fuel , too little air, or poor ignition. The first thing to do is get your ignition in good shape{new plugs, fuel filter, air filter}.But the amount of black smoke you are talking about may be nothing to worry about.

Re: Muffler shakes HELP!!!!!

you just need to have the muffler hangers replaced or welded back on better.

Again.Don't weld any muffler hanger. If you do you will have problems. The exhaust must be free to move on frontwheel drive vehicles. There is a flex joint at the front header pipe that will begin to leak. This flex joint is expensive.
