Re: Help Me Please
could be anything like a bad valve, timing chain, hole in piston, bad rings.

Re: Help Me Please
0 compression? i've heard of really low compression but "0"? even if all of the above things were bad you'd still get some compression.I hope the mechanic was exagerating(spell)

Re: Help Me Please
You could get 0 compression if you had a large hole in a piston. I would get a good explaination and a 2nd opinion before throwing a lot of $ into it.
I've not heard of other people having problems like this with the 3.7l. Off the subject but, I've been told that the 3.7l in a RAM is so gutless that it is frustrating to drive, trouble merging at Freeway speed, have foot to floor a lot and have to let traffic by, that sort of thing. I was wondering if that was the case for you too. |

Re: Help Me Please
If in fact the motor is shot i would just upgrade to the 4.7, 5.7, or hell maybe even the 6.1.
I would definatly have it checked by another shop too. Just in case.

Re: Help Me Please
well i got a second opinion so to speak yes it has been confirmed that the number 5 cyclinder has "0" compression they pulled the valve cover and did not see anything wrong there now they are going to pull the head and get a look i will let you know tomorrow when i find out what they found out

Re: Help Me Please
well they found that in fact a valve had let loose and the rocker arm fell in to the motor and damged the head the replaced motor with a used one with 34000 miles on it

Re: Help Me Please
Glad it's fixed, too bad that the destruction didn't take place inside the warranty period.

Re: Help Me Please
Those heads are easy to replace. Why did they sell you an entire engine? The rocker arm couldn't have damaged the entire engine. It's very common for valve seats to drop if the engine gets hot. I have a lot of experience with the 4.7L engine and the 3.7L is the same engine minus two cylinders. Very poor designs. If the valve seats don't drop the lash adjusters will gum up or collapse causing the rocker arms to fall off.
Edit: Ooops forgot to look at the date. But I can help with these engines if anyone needs it. |
