Most likely this is not the bulb. It gets powered on by the transmission put in reverse. That is where I would start looking. There should be a switch somewehere. I unfortunatelly do not know where it is located. Try to check with Haynes manual or so.

Might be something here that can help: http://experts.about.com/q/Toyota-Re...ail-lights.htm

This is for the wrong year but it might show where this sensor is and what it looks like: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Toyot...spagenameZWDVW

Hello SAM,

Is this the rear light sensor switch that I am looking for?

Also, check the loom of wires inside the trunk by the driver's side trunk hinge. The wires in that loom have a tendancy to break from all the flexing that loom is exposed to when the trunk is opened and closed. Open the loom and look for broken or frayed wires. Repair as necessary.
