Post Swap help in OH

ok guys not new to the site just forgot my password lol

I was drivin last sunday and blew my engine so i guess its time to do my dream swap. I'm gonna get a b16a complete swap that includes motor, tranny, ecu, shift linkage, and axles. The guy at the store said its a relatively easy swap and is throwing in a dvd tellin me how to do it. How has this been for you guys? I dont want to mess it up so im havin a few ppl who have more experience help me. I'm thinkin about puttin in a new water pump and maybe cv boots, but i didnt kno if i needed new headers to mount to the engine or if my d16 ones would work. I figure i probly will cuz the engine is putting out a lot more exhaust but just wanted to make sure. Is there anything besides hoses that ill need to buy?

Any suggestions or pointers would help me out a lot.

Re: Swap help in OH

Where are you in ohio? I'm in columbus with a crx and I'm also planning on doing the swap. Where are you getting your b16 from?

Look at HASPORT.com I think they tell you everything you need to do the swap. You will need a new intake and exhaust manifold because you're going from d to b. New axels I think are needed because you need the intermediate shafts.

Re: Swap help in OH

I haven't done this swap, or even a B series, just been around awhile, and read a bunch of stuff on here. You will need a new header, I don't think the D-series will even bolt up to the B-series block. You shouldn't have to worry about a new Intake manifold since your motor should come with one. New water pump wouldn't be a bad idea while its out. As for the CV boots, if your gonna replace them, you should just buy new axles. Most of the time if the boot is torn, ripped, or damaged at all, it will ruin the joints, plus if your gonna go through the hassle of it, might as well put new ones in it while its realitively easy....just my opinion.

I am in the process of doing research on doing a b20 swap to my EF now that its been sitting for 2 yrs...poor thing

Re: Swap help in OH

If its complete then the b16 should come with a manifold...although a factory one...

Re: Swap help in OH

Is that the only part you read? Read his whole post again. He says he is thinking about changing the water pump and cv boots.

The fact that you get a complete swap, doesn't mean you are getting new parts. Thats why I said if he is gonna change boots, might as well get NEW(remanufactured) axles.

Read everything before you try to correct someone.

Re: Swap help in OH

the kit actually comes with new axles, shift linkage, and motor mounts so im set with that. I'm hopefully getting the everything from jdmcustoms in cali cuz i cant find anything around here worth the time and effort, plus they ship for free so i might as well.

jusg-im in columbus too, i probly plan on doin the swap at my house near lancaster tho cuz thats where the car is..im goin home to find an engine lift tomorrow and hopefully bum the money off my parents since the bank rejected me for a loan. the manifold and everything is all installed to the motor when i get it. i just gotta put it in and hook it up

tony-a b20 would be pretty sick, are you talkin about from an older prelude or crv? cuz super street has/had a project crx with one from a crv in it and im sure it would fly if you put wings on it lol. im gonna try to find someone with a header for sale in the area, but if i cant ill just look on ebay for a dc sports one.

Re: Swap help in OH

Alright, thats good you are getting new axles with your swap. Like I said, some swaps I'm sure dont come with new axles, just the ones that were in it at the time.

Yea, it will be a B20 out of a CR-V. its the high-compression one too, B20Z. I kinda want to put one in my race car, since it will pretty much drop right in, but I need my hatch going and with something that can hopefully haul.

Ebay is a great place, just gotta watch those shipping costs, thats where some of those guys will get you. Good luck on your swap, hopefully all goes well. Just a tip from experience with different types of swap(mainly auto-manuals): Prepare for the worse. Its a lot better to have your nerves worked up before the swap rather than during.
