92 Ford F-Series Stalling

I have a 92 Ford 4X4 F Series that stalls when coming to a stop or when I'm starting out. It will also stall when I'm driving on occastion. I have put a new engine in it. It was stalling before the engine went in. I've had it in 3 different transmission shops and they say nothing is wrong. Also had it in the garage and they can't figure it out. Does anyone have any suggestions. Please need the help. Thanks.

If you haven't already, I would add a container of name brand fuel injector cleaner to a full tank of gas. Put the fuel injector cleaner in just before you fill the tank. This stuff has solved many a strange problem for me.

Re: mechhound

when the new engine was put in the throttle body and injectors and anything else related to fuel was cleaned manually.

It was happening before the new engine went in. The computer has been changed, and the distributor shaft.

Re: 92 Ford F-Series Stalling

First, try to determine if youre losing power to one of your circuits, or fuel pressure, which could be caused by loss of power. Could be a clogged filter. Reading between the lines, it sounds like it starts back up after stalling. You can rig up a test light to various circuits to see which one it is. Ive had several doing the same thing , and the problem was in the tank. The feed wires for the pump are rivetted to the feed thru insulator. These connections can become oxidized, and loose, and cause intermittent problems. I have bradded the rivets, and temporarily fixed them, and drilled thru the insulator, tapped the hole ( for a good seal), and reattached the wires with machine screws. Or if thats the problem, you can replace the pickup tube assembly, but theyre pretty pricey. Make sure thats where the problem is first though. Check to see where youre losing power, next time it dies while driving , maybe jiggle the key back and forth before the engine comes to a stop, it could be in the switch , i have found that to be the problem on a couple. Good luck.
Later
Ed
