Re: Stall converter

Stall converters allow the motor to get more into it's power band before full lock up of the stator in the converter. You need to select one based on your engines powerband, moslty when the cam comes to life.

Re: Stall converter

ALL torque converters have a stall rating. Your factory converter is probably in the range of 1,400-1,800. GM calls the stall rating "K-Factor" in it's units.

FWIW, I didn't know the stator "locked up" - I though stall rating was the absolute RPM where the turbine starts moving as a result of pump movement and stator position. I learned something new today. I guess it pays to keep an open mind.

Re: Stall converter

yeah and when u get one in your car it gives u that downshifting effect u get when driving a stick, its sweet as hell. i have a 3200 in mines, after i get my new cam and headers put on im getting it upgraded to a bigger stall, havent decided on the size yet, but its a free upgrade with vigilante (spelling?). so if u get one keep that in mind, up 2 one year u can upgrade to a bigger size for free...not counting that labor of coarse lol
