Instrument Panel Cluster out

TB 04 Sometimes, when I put ignition on, nothing works on the instrument panel cluster : no RPM, no tachymeter, no trip odometer, no speedometer, no gages (petrol, battery, etc....).
But The flash lights R & L work.
Everything else works, and the engine and gearbox run well.
Sometimes the RPM begin to work while traveling.

It can last for half a day or less. Suddenly wile running, everything becomes normal. Sometimes it comesback normal after a stop log or short.

The fuses are OK

Did anybody had a solution.

Sorry for my poor english

Re: Instrument Panel Cluster out

Sounds like a loose pin connection behind the cluster. Has the cluster ever been removed for tachometer replacement? That's a common failure item on TB's. The motor that drives the tach goes out. Wondering if cluster had been removed and something got jostled.

Re: Instrument Panel Cluster out

Hi Joel,

Don't know if the panel has been removed. It's a second hand, 23 000 miles
I will check it.
I thought also it could be a loose pin.
It seems also that there is a leak somewhere, there are some drops of water when it rains very hard. Is it common ?
Difficult to open the panel ?

Thank's

Daniel

Try removing for 10 seconds and reinstalling the cluster fuse.

Re: Instrument Panel Cluster out

i did it the first time all that happened
then I put a new fuse

No problems for 3 days, but since that, instrument panel cluster works or don't work !!!

I tried to see if the panel has been removed looking at the screws.
Difficult to say.

Re: Instrument Panel Cluster out

Daniel, it looks like you are on the right troubleshooting track. I'd pull the instrument cluster to check for moisture or loose connections. I don't know the exact steps in removing the cluster, but u might find it here or trailvoy.com.

Re: Instrument Panel Cluster out

I too have this problem, I have an '02 LS model, and I noticed it the first time at 37,000 miles, then again at 60,000 miles, I have looked for loose connections, and have not found any, I dont' think I have a leaking problem and I have changed the fuse also. I don't think my tach has been changed but it does make a lot of noise, I did not know that the tach motor goes out on these trucks, could the motor going out cause a temp short? that doesn't blow a fuse?

Re: Instrument Panel Cluster out

I solved temporarly the problem. 45 minutes haidryer behind the instrument cluster from left side, opening both side. But each time it rains heavily, it happens again, sometimes one the gauge or the RPM subitely goes up and stop anywhere.
so I think the reason is condensation. I stay in a very humid country (Tahiti) with a lot of rain. I import this trail blazer from California because there is no GM dealer in our country. I do all the service by muself.
