93 supreme AC

ok so I checked my AC in my 93 olds cutlass supreme SL 3.1L and it works, at least i think it does, i hooked up a wire from the compressor and ran it to the positive terminal on the battery, and it clicked and worked, i tried while the car was running, and it engaged and all looked fine while running, only no cold air, i tried to charge it a few days before, wouldnt even click on, im thinking try to charge it while i force the compressor to click on again, but still, i dont know if it'll go on its own, anything to check out?
