WIP - 1997 Nissan R390 GT1 - All Open, Full Detail.

Hi,

I have had this kit and upgrades on the shelf for what seems like forever, so I decided to make a start.

The build will use the Tamiya kit, enhanced with the Scale Motorsport Composite decals and photo etch sets.



The photo etch is particularly impressive with parts included for many of the details inside the front end including brackets for brake cooling ducts, fluid bottles etc and even a complete oil cooler for the the rear spoiler. Instructions can be found here (PDF File).

The first job was to remove the front end and doors, as well as remove the front section of the one piece under panel so as to build it attached to the front section later on as shown in the second pic ('98 version shown).





Once this was done, I decided to work on the front/cockpit section. The first job was to correct the openings in the front end and remove the large pieces of excess plastic each side of the piece. At the same time, the centre console and electronics box were removed from the cockpit floor and the holes filled. These will de detailed and put back in later on.









Other work has included removing the molded in detail on both sides of the rear bulkhead and molded roll cage sections, both bulkhead and each side bar. These will be replaced by a full cage, again, 'later on'.

Not much to show for quite a few hours work, but it's a start. Currently most of the work involves filling in areas not seen with the body complete, inner door sills, gaps between main tub and body etc.

Great project and even better timing! Im going to be starting this build sometime this year using the same SAS kits and also the Renaissance 98 Trans-kit. I will be watching this closely for ideas! Now get back to building and show me lots of progress!
