Cracked Head and Head Gaskets
I'm new to Izusu but I am interested in purchasing a Rodeo with what the
seller describes as a bad head gasket. How common is it for a 3.2 to also crack the heads or block when it blows the head gasket. I know with some cars ex my Explorer, if I blow a head gasket, cracks in the head are very rare b/c the 4.0 is very tolerant of temperature swings withing the combustion chamber. |

What year, mileage, how many times did it overheat? And what caused it to overheat?
Thing is, these are all aluminum engines, it's really hard to speculate IF the block is cracked just from the purchasing stand-point. I would say it would have to depend on how many times and how hard it overheated - if the previous owner only overheated it once and stopped the car immediately, it *might* be ok. Was the problem fixed? Or is it still continuing?

he never fixed it, he just decided to sell it. From what I gather, it overheated once and quit running, so he parked it

i'd say if it overheated once and quit running..the head ay be cracked...otherwise it wouldn't have an issue running.

Still didn't say what year or mileage.
Thing is if it's an automatic, not only did he overheat the engine but also the transmission - so you'd be looking at replacing both most likely. If you're looking for a fixer-upper for DIRT cheap, otherwise, if you're looking for the hopes of replacing just the headgasket, I'd be weary. As you could be in for a whole new engine, and transmission (if it's an auto), I agree with above, if it's not running then the block is cracked. New engines for these 3.2L's are pretty $$$, not too mention the hard to find, also expensive 4L30-E Automatic transmission - so unless it was a newer Rodeo say less then 3-4yrs old, and he was selling it for $1000 or so, it wouldn't be worth YOUR cost. Obviously it wasn't worth his; which is sad because these are good trucks if taken care of. They are not for the maintenance-neglect owners.

Its a 98 with 121000 on it. Thanks for the help. I think I might be passing this one up .

Yeap, I personally wouldn't be giving it a 2nd thought - unless I was interested in just the frame.
