question about fuel injectors

how difficult and time consuming is it to replace fuel injectors on a 98 pontiac grand prix gtp? what tools are required as well, if you know.

Why do you want to replace the fuel injectors?

i have about 140k miles on it and was told about 5k ago that a couple of the injectors are going bad when my car wouldnt remain started. it's doing it again and i'm getting to the point where theres not much left for me to change in the fuel system to believe that its not the fuel injectors. if you have any other advice, i'd love to hear it. my car will just randomly stop working correctly every month or two. i have to get to the train station a mile away for work so i just put it in neutral and maintain the RPMs while breaking and then switching it into drive to get going. i'm caucasian, i assure you, but have no idea what to do besides the injectors.

The first thing you need to do is check the fuel pressure on this car and make sure it is within specification. Low fuel pressure will make the car not want to run correctly. Also you may want to put a new fuel filter on the car if it hasn't been changed in a while. You could also have a bad fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump rather than injectors.

If the injectors are bad they are not too hard to change. Disconnect the battery cable first and then you will need to bleed the fuel pressure from the system and disconnect the fuel lines at the top of the supercharger. You will need a tool to do this. Once you have it disconnected there are a couple of bolts that hold the rail to the manifold. Remove these and the fuel rail will be loose. Now remove and label each injector wire. If you don't label them you will have major issues. You can then remove the injectors and the fuel rail at the same time or remove the rail from the injectors. The injectors are held in with a clip so they should come out of the manifold fairly easily. Just gently move them back and forth while pulling. Once they are out disconnect the injectors from the rail and then replace in reverse order. Make sure to use vasoline or other o-ring lube on the o-rings both in the manifold and the fuel rail before installation. Replace the injectors and fuel rail connecting everything. Don't forget the wires to each injector. You may also want to replace the o-rings in the fuel line as well as they tend to leak. Re-couple everything connect the battery cable and turn the key on to check for leaks. If no leaks then start the car.
