New cats, new power

I had 2 new Magnaflow hi-flow cats put on my truck today ($180 installed), and two things happened. One, my SES light has not come on again (was code P0430). Two, more power. I only downshifted once in 50 miles on route 80, where I used to downshift at least 5 or 6 times. I should have asked to see the old cats - bet they were really shot with 136k miles on them. Now I'm thinking about getting the magnaflow muffler too.

Re: New cats, new power

They could have been shot, but the factory cats are very restrictive, even if they weren't bad the new cats would be a lot better. I would change the factory muffler as well they are also very restrictive.

Re: New cats, new power

I wonder if new cats would help mine? I always read that the factory cats where not that bad. I have a magnaflow cat back which really helped, you think I would notice new cats also? Are those SS cats? like the factory ones. Seems like a good price, hell I paid like 5 bills for the cat back and did my own install.

Yes cats would help a ton, the factory cats are restrictive and they plug easy. If you paid $500 for a magna flow system you got screwed.

Re: New cats, new power

Well, I priced all the ebay ads and they were in the high 4's, so just ordered from jegs with free shipping it was just over 5 bills. Usually jegs or summit is right on par with others and no worries about gettin screwed on ebay--been there done that. What is a good place to buy?

Re: New cats, new power

I got mine at drivewire.com and for two it came out to $122.66 with free shipping. Plus I got 2 denso O2 sensors for $84. Took awhile to get the cats; I think they were backordered.

Re: New cats, new power

Hey I was at a shop and i was checking out those magnaflow hi-flow cats. Do they do anything for sound?? I have a magnaflow muffler on my truck and im trying to get a little more sound out of it. Is there a loss in back pressure?
