95 Transport 3.8 cranks no start

With engine running perfectly fine and no error codes, engine suddenly stopped when driving. Engine cranks good but will not restart. There is no spark on any cylinders. So far I have replaced the PCM and the ignition module, and still no spark. Checked crankshaft position sensor and voltages were in spec when cranking engine. Tried to start with the camshaft position sensor disconnected with no success. Checked every wire leaving the ignition control module for grounds and continuity, checked PCM and ICM grounds, checked all coils for resistance readings. Checked throttle position readings and engine coolant sensor readings.

Any ideas? Can anything on the fuel side prevent spark? I haven't gone done that path. Even though the crank sensor passed the voltage test procedure, I am thinking of replacing that next.

Thanks for any input.

Nope, no spark whatsoever. Since I have no spark, I have seen no reason to go down the no-fuel-path. Yep, I checked the fuses and power to the PCM and ICM. Even though the original set of coils tested okay, I put them on my Camaro to test them further and they fired right up.

Re: 95 Transport 3.8 cranks no start

Even though I highly doubted any positive result, I went ahead and changed the camshaft position sensor and crankshaft position sensor last night. No difference, still no spark.

Late last night I came up with a new idea. I have already checked for voltage supply to the ignition module, but I did this with the connector unplugged to access the pin. What if the voltage is dropping when under load when all is connected and powered up? Tonight, I am going to check that pink supply wire all the way back to its roots looking for a voltage drop.

Moby is right...make sure you have injector power..
Do you hear fuel pump run when you turn the key to run?
If no injector pulse you wont get spark...

Have you checked the ground connection to the Ignition control module? Seems like a simple thing but it happened to me and it took 3 weeks to get it going again. I ran a heavy gauge wire from the battery to the bottom of the mounting plate for the I.C.M.

Re: 95 Transport 3.8 cranks no start

i just thought i would throw my 2 cents in but i had the same problem with my car. Driving down road and all of a sudden it stalls and wont restart.... well i called a mechanic friend and he tested the fuel pressure... and other things but it was the CONTROL MODULE! He changed it and had my car running in 15 min. started right up. Hope it helps.

..well, just for the record, you can have spark and no injector pulse. That was the case when mine failed 3 years ago. Problem was the ignition module, that buffers and carries the 2 crank signals to the ECM. The one buffer linked to the injectors control was shot. www.avigex.ca/xport/IgnitionModule.jpg

One member in UK had a problem with a "pink wire" (with black stripe) , that in turns feeds the MAF sensor..and PCM. There was corrosion at main plug, near the passenger side suspension tower. www.avigex.ca/xport/fuelinject.jpg

As you are new to the forum, welcome and please know that my signature is not specific to a single post...it accompanies all of my posts, as a leitmotiv.......and some did comment that they believe in miracles, but I understand it is probably not in car matters ..And opinions and experiences in the forum do not compete...they just add up one to another, so no sorry...and we all learn more that way. May be miracles are rare, but oddities are not...
